Not your average Christmas concert! There will be some old favourites for sure, but there is also the chance to hear some music that is beautiful, but may be unfamiliar to you, Christmas poetry and the London premi\u00e8re of Nunc Dimittis<\/em>: a brand new piece written for CCC by young composer Sam Wilson<\/strong>. This early-evening concert takes place in the candle-lit splendour of one of Wren’s finest churches and you can meet the choir over wine and mince-pies afterwards.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>CCC explores the subject of time with some works by 20th and 21st century masters of choral writing. The choir continues its Composer in Association scheme with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with the first performance of a new work by a student of composition.<\/p>\n

7.30 pm Tuesday 12 May 2015 \u2013 Baroque Masterpieces<\/strong><\/p>\n

An evening of master works from the beginning and end of Handel\u2019s extraordinary career. At 19 he went to live in Italy, and by the time he found his way to Rome, he had all who experienced his phenomenal skills worshipping at his feet and even comparing him to Orpheus. Dixit Dominus<\/em> comes from this period, along with the exquisite Nisi Dominus<\/em>, both psalm settings from the Carmelite Vespers<\/em> of 1707. Thirty years later Frederick the Great wrote: \u2018Hendel\u2019s great days are over, his inspiration is exhausted\u2019. In fact, Handel was about to write many of his most popular and enduring works, including the Op. 6 Concerti Grossi<\/em>, regarded as among the finest examples of Baroque orchestral music.<\/p>\n

Concert in support of Music Fund<\/a>, which supports young musicians and music schools in impoverished countries and areas of conflict, believing music can enrich lives and contribute to the cultural development of local communities. Music Fund collects musical instruments in Europe, repairing and then delivering them to music schools in countries such as Mozambique, DRC, Morocco, Palestine and Haiti.<\/p>\n

It trains local musicians in instrument repair and maintenance. In UNWRA schools in Gaza, it also supports a role for music in general education. Music Fund is based in Brussels with a London Group of Friends and many partners across Europe.<\/p>\n

7.00 pm Saturday 27 June 2015 \u2013 Wren Choral Marathon (City of London Festival)
<\/strong><\/p>\n

City Chamber Choir is delighted to be taking part in the Wren Choral Marathon, which gives you the chance to hear concerts by 17 different choirs in 17 Wren churches in a single day, starting at 8am and concluding with a midnight Vespers; a fantastic opportunity to spend time indulging in great architecture and wonderful music in as many Wren churches as you can manage in a day.<\/p>\n
